Finally, Iceland qualified for the 2018 World Cup finals after beating Croatia at home.  Icelander’s topped this group which includes favorites like Croatia & Ukraine.

They have become the first nation ever who qualified for the Fifa World cup finals with a population of under a million.

Icelander’s first ever major tournament entry witnessed in Euro 16, where they were unbeaten until they faced France, the host of the tournament, in the quarter-finals.

They have won seven games out of 10 matches, including all wins at home, they played in 2018 Soccer World cup qualification phase.

Iceland managed 3-2 win our Finland, whereas, defeated by the same opponent by 1-0 in Tampere.

Croatia beat Iceland with 2-0 in their first meetup, whereas they returned quickly. Consequently, In their second competition, Iceland beat Croatia in a thriller contest with 1-0, which was scored in the 90th minute of the play.

Iceland v Turkey

As a result of a marvelous 3-0 win against Turkey, Iceland topped the group again, as Croatia v Finland drew at the same night.

They have managed a convincing 2-0 victory against Kosovo at home.

Iceland Coach in Fifa World Cup 2018 

Heimir Hallgrimsson

Heimir born on 10th June 1967 and presently he is 51 years old.  By profession, he is a qualified dentist, who continued his practice in his native Westmann Islands.

Icelandic Football Federation appointed Swede as national team coach & hired Heimir as assistant to Lars Lagerback in 2011.

In a famous win of Iceland against England during Euro 2016, Hallgrimson was assistant to Lars Lagerback. After Lars Lagerback, he appointed as a full-time coach for Iceland national team.

Top Players, who can shine for Iceland in Soccer World cup 2018


Gylfi Sigurdsson scored four goals for the national team in World Cup 2018 qualifiers. He was the leading goal scorer from Iceland.


Although captain Aron Einar Gunnarsson debuted in 2008 for national team Iceland, up till now, he didn’t prove his worth. He can make a vital combination with Gylfi Sigurdsson. His role as midfielder provides space & time to the strikers who can mark a goal.

Centre-backs pair of Ragnar Sigurdsson and Kari Arnason can create a defensive wall with the help of keeper Hannes Halldorsson.


Main striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson didn’t play any game since Euro 2016 due to a knee injury in September 2016. His return was expected by, and we didn’t hear about it.

Iceland World Cup Injuries

Gylfi Sigurdsson one of the best player, is suffering from a knee injury, caused when he was playing for Everton. He is not sure to be a part of playing XI due to the seriousness of the injury.
